About me

I love helping students truly understand Maths, not just memorize answers. I’ve supported peers and younger students through one-on-one and voluntary tutoring, creating lessons tailored to each student’s needs and learning style. I focus on breaking down tricky concepts into clear steps, using practice questions to reinforce understanding. My goal is to make lessons engaging, interactive, and effective, helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. Seeing the moment a student finally “gets it” is what motivates me to keep teaching and improving my approach.

About the lessons

My lessons are fully tailored to each student. I like to spend some time getting to know the student and how they feel about areas of strength and weakness. From there, I either design a lesson plan, consisting of starter activities, main topic questions and content and a short quiz at the end, consolidating all they've learnt. Structuring lessons like this allows me to cover content in addition to applying it in question formats - to bridge the gap between subject level understanding and exam style application.

I do assessments every 5-6 lessons, which is how long it takes me to cover a topic (on average). While I don't waste class time in doing a full assessment, I do ask that the pupil completes it on their own, without any help (use of a calculator will be specified) in a quiet place, with a parent or carer supervising if necessary. These assessments, along with how the student felt about them are taken into account when measuring progress and seeing if they have achieved their goals.

To further encourage learning, I set homework rarely, but at regular intervals, alongside the assessments mentioned earlier. I believe this helps create a positive environment around learning, emphasising it's not just something done at school or classes, but all around.
