With over twenty years of experience in education, I specialise in delivering highly personalised, confidence-building learning for students who benefit from a supportive, flexible and relationship-centred approach. I have taught across mainstream schools, alternative provision and Further Education, and I currently work as a 1:1 tutor supporting GCSE Maths students—particularly those on the Grade 3/4 borderline—helping them secure Grade 4/5 outcomes through structured practice, targeted intervention and carefully scaffolded teaching. My experience within the East Riding Home Tuition Service has given me deep expertise in working with vulnerable, SEND and SEMH learners, designing bespoke programmes that meet academic, emotional and behavioural needs while supporting reintegration into school when appropriate. I prioritise creating a calm, predictable environment where students feel safe to learn, ask questions and build resilience, using trauma-informed strategies, patient communication and small-step progression to develop confidence and independence. My background as a PE teacher, outdoor activity instructor and examiner enriches my teaching style, allowing me to bring practical examples, active learning and real-life problem-solving into sessions to make abstract concepts accessible and engaging. I work closely with parents, carers, schools and external agencies to ensure that each student receives cohesive support, with clear feedback, collaborative planning and realistic but aspirational goals. I firmly believe that progress is best achieved when students feel valued and understood, so I invest time in building trust, celebrating successes and helping learners recognise their own capability. Whether supporting a young person to re-engage with education, preparing a student for a crucial GCSE resit, or helping an adult learner bridge gaps in core subjects, my focus remains on nurturing confidence, improving skills and enabling every individual to experience academic success and personal growth.
