My lessons are designed to be creative and help make learning interesting for the tutee. I hope to make connections with my tutees and personalised lessons to aid their learning. I have experience teaching both English literature and language as a secondary school trainee teacher. I also have a BA in English Language.

A typical GCSE English Literature lesson would work on practice with quote analysis and theme understanding. Before attempting to write an essay it is crucial that a student understands the process behind it. Therefore lessons would focus on structure and assisted planning. I would use a mixture of examples and non examples to help the student with this. This would be accompanied by open discussions with the student and helping them to articulate their own viewpoint. It is important to me that tutees develop their own opinions about theme and characters, as this interest will help them when it comes to actually writing.

An English Language lesson would be slightly different. As the language paper is more formulaic, we would work through the questions together. Having studied English language at Degree level, I have an expert understanding of key terminology and inference skills that are needed when it comes to analysing sources. Therefore, a big part of this would be teaching the tutee to be able to critically examine language extracts and understand how their answers need to be structured to achieve the most marks.

As a PGCE student I have a relevant understanding of current teaching theory and pedagogy, which I would be able to implement in my lessons, depending on what is best for the student.
