Louis Garner

As a tutor, I'm someone who listens and endeavors to answer the questions my students have about history. Through encouraging them to ask questions, and showing them the methods through which to research their answers, my main hope would be to teach not only the curriculum, but show the vibrant tapestry that is history. I hope that my one-to-one style sessions help to get to know my students and enable us to work together to broaden their understanding of history, both in regard to their exams and study, and in their own personal interest with the subject.

History is all around us, it is the human story. It is the study and appreciation of everything, everyone, has ever done, anywhere. And it is the greatest privilege of my life that I get to study it, and hope to make it my profession. While I know that many consider history a dull, or drab subject, and that many have very clear ideas of what we historians are, I hope to show my students that there is passion in this field, and the ability to pursue an interest in it from any angle of your own choosing.

Beyond that I hope to help my students to pass their exams to the utmost of their ability, encouraging them to achieve whatever they hope to achieve from the study of history, as I have with GCSE and fellow A-Level students as I advanced through my schooling. After going away to university, I was able to earn a greater understanding of the requirements of History A-Level Coursework research, while still maintaining a firm understanding of the requirements of GCSE and A-Level History, question answer structure, revision techniques for key pieces of information, and the ability to explain the narrative of the area of history being studied.

History is my passion, my interest, and one I wish to share with those curious to learn!
