Hello, I'm Lorayne, I am a current Imperial Chemistry offer holder in a gap year with two years of tutoring experience in GCSE and A-level Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chmeistry.
I hold 1to1 private sessions for both in-person and online. I am currently employed at St Andrew's Catholic School as a lab technician, as well as hosting 1to1 or 1to2 sessions with current Year 13s for A-level Biology and Chemistry support in my role. I am proud to say that I have successfully boosted their predicted grades from a D or E to at least a B!
I always provide flexibility and let my students decide what topics they would like to cover to tailor to their needs and weaknesses. I also try to explain in different ways when they struggle to understand certain concepts. I try to push them to become thinkers to work out answers rather than just telling them. I strongly believe understanding is key and I hope to build a lovely relationship with all my tutees. I always try my best to allow them to reach their full potential.
For typical lessons, I start with a brief chat with them, then I will have a look into the work they had assigned to see how comfortable they are with the topic. Then, I will go through a topic that they had requested and go through some practice questions together as well as analysing their thought process behind it, to adjust on how to score more marks on certain questions. Then assign them some work to do for extra practise and jot down what they would like to go through next time. I also give them little treats as rewards as well for good performances.
