Lloyd James

I have been studying with Lloyd for over two years now, and I cannot recommend him enough. Before I started lessons with him, my Japanese learning felt completely stuck and wasn't going anywhere. Now, I have made massive progress and feel I know a lot. What drew me to Lloyd initially was that he knows Japanese at a native level but learned it as a second language himself. This has been a huge advantage because he truly understands the struggle of learning it from scratch. He explains all sorts of complex cultural and grammatical concepts perfectly. On top of his expertise, he is incredibly patient. Even when I struggle with the same concept, or I forget a word for the millionth time, he allows me some time to remember it, and if I have completely forgotten, he is cool and happily goes over the material again. His lessons are engaging, and the time always passes so quickly. If you want a patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely supportive tutor, look no further!

I have been taking Japanese lessons with Lloyd for a few months at this point. I was independently studying Japanese on my own for a about about 4 months prior to beginning my lessons with Lloyd. My experience with him has been extremely positive. He was able to quickly determine my current understanding level of Japanese, and implement personalized lessons that reinforce and provide valuable insight into what I already learned, while also improving upon and increasing my overall knowledge of the language. Learning Japanese is obviously challenging, and after each lesson with Lloyd, I truly feel like more pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place, and I have a deeper understanding of the language. I plan on continuing my lessons with him indefinitely, as I find them extremely valuable for my time and money.
