All of my online tutoring sessions are delivered via Zoom, using interactive tools to make learning clear, engaging, and effective.
I always begin by getting to know each student—their interests, strengths, challenges, and personal learning goals. Building a positive relationship from the start helps me tailor each lesson to suit their individual needs and boost their confidence.
Each lesson follows a consistent and purposeful structure:
Engaging Hook:
Every session starts with a short, fun, and relevant activity to spark curiosity and activate prior knowledge. This helps students feel immediately involved and ready to learn.
Explicit Teaching & Modelling:
I introduce new concepts using high-impact strategies, including clear explanations, step-by-step modelling, and worked examples. This ensures students understand not just the what, but the how and why behind each concept or skill.
Guided to Independent Practice:
Students are given the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned through guided tasks, before moving on to work independently. This builds their confidence and helps solidify their understanding.
Consolidation & Review:
At the end of each lesson, we revisit the learning through a fun, reflective activity to reinforce key ideas and celebrate progress. This could include games, mini-quizzes, or a short creative task.
I use a range of assessment strategies throughout—such as questioning, observation, short tasks, and student self-reflection—to track progress and identify next steps. This helps me set clear, achievable goals for each student and ensures every lesson builds on their learning journey.
