I'm a friendly, approachable tutor with over 15 years’ experience teaching in UK universities, most recently as an Associate Professor of Climate and Environmental Science. I now work part-time in the conservation sector, but remain passionate about supporting students to achieve their academic and career goals.

My background includes designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, and Geology. I’ve worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds, including international students, those returning to study, and those managing additional learning needs — and I’m committed to creating inclusive, engaging learning environments where everyone can thrive.

I offer tailored one-to-one support in subject content, research skills, and academic writing, as well as coaching for university applications, CVs, and interviews. Available for online or in person (local) sessions. Before each session, I’ll ask you to share the specific topics or challenges you're facing so I can design a focused, impactful session that meets your needs.

My approach is supportive and practical: I’ll help you build confidence and deepen your understanding with clear explanations, worked examples, and plenty of encouragement. Whether you’re preparing for exams, writing coursework, or exploring your next steps, I’ll help you get where you want to be.

I look forward to helping you succeed!

Lisa was my PhD supervisor while I was studying at Durham University, and I always called her a superstar! She’s incredibly capable, knowledgeable, and organized, but what really makes her stand out is how genuinely passionate she is about helping her students. She has this amazing ability to explain complex ideas in a clear, approachable way, and she always takes the time to make sure her students feel supported. Working with Lisa gave me confidence and skills that went way beyond my PhD, her encouragement and mentorship made such a difference in my journey. If you’re looking for someone who not only knows her stuff inside out but also truly cares about your success, I can’t recommend her enough.

Lisa was great. She helped me improve my scientific report writing and research skills, which made a real difference to my final year undergraduate dissertation mark. She also supported me in developing practical, employability skills—such as seeking quotes for a funding proposal budget. Her feedback was always clear, constructive, and encouraging, and she is always full of suggestions and ideas. I felt more confident in my academic work after every session, and I’ve continued to use what I learned in my professional career. I would definitely recommend her.

Lisa was a constant source of inspiration with her ceaseless drive for science and learning during the time I worked with her at Teesside University. As a new member of staff in my first full time lectureship it was great to know that I could always count on Lisa for any advice or mentorship. She was also an excellent leader for our research group and always pushing to achieve more. I would totally recommend Lisa as a tutor.
