Lisa Annetts

I am an experienced and committed educator most recently working as Head of the EAL Department at a secondary academy in Essex. I am passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to learning and enabling them to achieve their potential through high-quality teaching, inclusive practice, and strong pastoral support.

As EAL lead, I was responsible for the planning and delivery of high-quality teaching, learning and assessment for EAL students. This included developing Schemes of Work, preparing engaging and differentiated lessons, assessing student progress and providing targeted feedback to support improvement. My cohort included students with SEN and SEMH needs, who required carefully adapted teaching approaches and strong pastoral awareness. Through this work, I have developed extensive experience supporting learners aged 14–18 who are disadvantaged or who face significant barriers to engagement and academic success. Furthermore, I have privately tutored adults since 2010.

My experience working with students who face complex challenges has strengthened my ability to support learners with additional needs. Many of the students I teach require encouragement, structure and understanding to engage successfully with learning. I take pride in creating a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel confident to participate, develop resilience and make progress.

I am committed to maintaining high professional standards and continually developing my practice. I engage actively with professional development opportunities and value reflective practice and constructive feedback as key elements of effective teaching.
