All lessons take place at the student's home and last half an hour. The first lesson is offered free as a trial for student and assessment session for me to understand the student in order to tailor the pace of lessons and so that I can anticipate where different students may find difficulty. For students aged 9 to 25 the average speed of learning is one ABRSM grade per year but this varies more significantly for other age groups.
Lesson Content: The focus of teaching will be on violin performance but will include the appropriate theory when preparing for violin examinations. Lessons will use a mixture of the Kodaly method for general learning and popular violin books including Abracadabra Violin, Violin Star and the Suzuki books for exercises and practice pieces. This combination helps students to begin by learning a variety of familiar tunes before tackling newer, more complicated pieces once they have built the skills and knowledge to understand the music and perform to an appropriate standard.
