Spanish lessons will be tailored to your level and aims, whether that is trying to excel in your GCSE Spanish reading paper or improving your conversational fluency. Thus, each lesson will start with an appraisal of your goals. Exercises are useful in checking your understanding of a phrase or a grammatical structure, but I also like to focus on a frequent back and forth and active practice with students to build skills. This practice of actively using vocabulary and different grammar structures to form sentences should build your familiarity and confidence with these different features of a language and also provide frequent feedback. I believe language lessons should be dynamic and conversational and I encourage all students to ask questions whenever they feel like it as often questioning is one of the best ways to get to grips and understand a language. As Spanish is a language that shares a lot of similarities with English I often find that it's useful to highlight those similarities such as in sentence structure or vocabulary as this can help strengthen memory and word association. When it comes to greater differences between English and Spanish, such as the use of the conditional tense, I find that it is important to fully break down the grammar and build a strong foundation of understanding grammar. I encourage all students to find a system that works for them in learning vocabulary, but most importantly, I hope to impart a strong base in language learning and inspire you to go even further in your language learning.
