Lianne Johnston

With 14 years of experience as a primary school teacher, I specialise in supporting Key Stage 2 pupils aged 7–11 in English, Maths and SATs preparation. My aim is not only to improve attainment, but to build the confidence, independence and learning skills that enable children to make lasting progress.

I believe effective tutoring starts with understanding the individual child. I assess their current knowledge, identify areas for development and then design lessons around their specific needs and goals. Lessons are structured, purposeful and engaging, combining clear explanations, modelling, guided practice, questioning and opportunities for children to apply their learning independently. I regularly check understanding and adapt the pace and level of challenge so that pupils feel supported without becoming overwhelmed.

For SATs preparation, I focus on developing secure subject knowledge alongside exam confidence. Children are taught how to approach different question types, identify what a question is asking, apply appropriate strategies and learn from mistakes. I aim to make preparation positive and manageable rather than stressful.

I also have extensive experience supporting children with additional learning needs, including ADHD, dyslexia and autism. My approach is therefore highly adaptable, with lessons tailored through appropriate scaffolding, resources, pace and teaching strategies.

Alongside my teaching experience, I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Child Psychology and am currently completing a Master’s degree in Psychology with an educational and cognitive focus. I bring patience, empathy, enthusiasm and a calm, encouraging approach to every lesson, helping children feel capable, motivated and proud of their progress.
