Hi, I'm Lewis — a chemistry tutor with a PhD in Chemistry and a First Class MChem, both from the University of Liverpool. I currently work as a postgraduate demonstrator, running undergraduate laboratory courses and supervising research projects, alongside developing educational materials aimed at A-level students, so I have genuine, hands-on experience explaining chemistry clearly to learners at very different stages.
My lessons are built around understanding why something works, not just memorising the answer — I find students retain far more when a concept is broken down step by step and connected back to something they already understand, rather than treated as an isolated fact to learn by rote. I regularly use worked examples, diagrams, and real-world context to make abstract ideas (whether that's reaction mechanisms, equilibrium, or exam technique) genuinely click, and I always check understanding actively rather than just working through content.
I tailor each session to the individual student — some benefit from a structured, syllabus-led approach working systematically through exam topics; others do better with a more flexible session addressing whatever they're currently stuck on. I'm patient, encouraging, and comfortable explaining the same idea multiple ways until it lands, having spent years doing exactly that in university labs and tutorials.
