I like to work while having fun, and so do many children. This increases the attention they pay to the lesson and often makes it easier for them to absorb the material. Therefore many of my lessons are fast paced, using interactive methods such as counters, multi link cubes and post it’s notes to ensure the learner stays engaged with the lesson. However, this can be amended if need be, dependent on the child’s ability.

Plenty of initial examples of tasks and how to complete them would be shown to gain a better understanding of the outcome of the task given. The child would then have a go themselves at the task with full support from myself. They can also be provided with some homework so they can practice the task independently and this will be reviewed in the following lesson and any mistakes can then be amended and worked through.

Some of the subjects I covering maths are: Money, more than/less than, positional language (first, second, third etc), basic addition and subtraction, basic fractions, odd/even numbers, times tables and identifying numbers and being able to form it correctly but we can change the subjects according to your child’s requirements.

With regards to English, I only offer KS1 phonics and reading to assist with the maths work and enable better recognition of letter names and formation.

Lots of guidance and support would be given as an ongoing theme. In my 22 years experience sometimes working slow but steady gets better results. I give lots of encouragement, help and guidance with any task set so no child feels at a disadvantage.

Evidence of work from lessons and progress of the child as we continue would be recorded to ensure we cover everything necessary.
