I focus on gaining deep understanding rather than memorisation

For a student to master a topic I believe it's important for him or her to have a full understanding of what the techniques and approaches actually mean. This is the only way to have the confidence to tackle novel problems and to do so in a way that we can be sure of our conclusions.
