Lessons I Would Teach as a Visual Art Teacher,

I would create practical and easy-to-understand lessons that help students and beginners develop confidence in drawing and painting. I would start with the fundamentals and gradually introduce more advanced techniques.
1. Introduction to Drawing
Understanding basic shapes, lines, forms and proportions.
Practising observation and learning how to draw what you actually see.
Exercises using circles, squares, cylinders and simple objects.
2. Sketching and Shading
Teaching students how to use pencils with different pressures.
Understanding light and shadow.
Practising hatching, cross-hatching, blending and tonal values.
Creating three-dimensional forms through shading.
3. Perspective and Proportion
Teaching one-point and two-point perspective.
Understanding size, distance and positioning.
Drawing simple buildings, rooms and everyday objects.
4. Colour Theory
Introducing primary, secondary and complementary colours.
Understanding warm and cool colours.
Teaching colour mixing and how to create different tones and shades.
Helping students understand how colour can communicate mood and emotion.

5. Painting Techniques
Teaching brush control and different brush techniques.
Exploring acrylic, watercolour and other suitable painting materials.
Demonstrating layering, blending, glazing, dry brushing and creating texture.
Teaching students how to prepare a surface before painting.

6. Still-Life Painting
Setting up simple objects for students to observe and paint.
Teaching composition, proportion, light, shadow and colour.
Encouraging students to develop their own style rather than simply copying an example.

7. Portrait Drawing and Painting
Teaching basic facial proportions and structure.

Practising eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hair.
Understanding skin tones, light and shadow.
Encouraging students to capture character and expression.

8. Developing Creativity
Helping students generate their own ideas instead of relying entirely on reference images.
Encouraging experimentation with colour, materials and techniques.
Introducing simple projects where students can express personal experiences and emotions through art.

9. Art Critique and Improvement
Teaching students how to look at their own work critically and positively.

Giving constructive feedback while encouraging confidence.
Showing students how to identify areas for improvement and develop their work further.

10. Final Creative Project I would finish a course with a personal project where each student chooses a subject and applies the techniques they have learned. I would guide them through planning, sketching, colour selection, painting and finishing their artwork.
My aim would be to make art practical, enjoyable and accessible, especially for beginners. I would create a supportive environment where students are not afraid of making mistakes, because experimentation and practice are important parts of becoming a better artist.
