Leona Treesa Shijo

My name is Leona and I am a first year MSc Physics with Space Science student at the University of Southampton. I achieved eight Grade 9s and four Grade 8s at GCSE including a Grade 9 in Maths and Further Maths. I have basic tutoring experience mentoring younger students at school as well as teaching my two younger siblings at home. Although I may not have a great deal of tutoring experience, having just completed school life myself, I know I have built a very strong routine and idea of revision techniques that are effective. I believe I will be able to understand the student, create a personalised study plan for them and strive to support them in achieving the best.

As for my lesson plan, I will start the first 10-15mins checking in with the student and asking them questions on the topic we covered last session. During 15-30 mins, I will talk to them about our plan for the session and introduce the topic I will be covering today and will explain the topic to them. In the next 30-70min, I will have prepared questions for them with stages easy, medium and hard. I will let the student work through the questions whilst assisting them. In the last 20 mins, I will ask the student for feedback so that I can improve the lesson plan for next week and will make sure they are confident with the topic. I will also support them with any homework questions they have and will possibly set 4-5 questions for them to complete myself as active recall is the most effective revision technique. I would like to do 1.5hr session and am available to do only 2 sessions per week, however if the student has any questions they are free to email me any time in the week.
