As a university student studying Spanish, I would provide friendly, engaging and personalised private tuition sessions tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. My aim would be to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable practising Spanish, making mistakes and building confidence in their ability.
Before beginning lessons, I would establish the student’s current level, areas they find challenging and what they hope to achieve. This could include improving conversational Spanish, developing grammar and vocabulary, preparing for school or university assessments, or simply becoming more confident when speaking the language. I would then structure each session around these specific objectives.
During lessons, I would use a combination of conversation practice, vocabulary-building activities, grammar exercises, reading and listening tasks. I believe that regularly speaking Spanish is particularly important, so I would encourage students to communicate in Spanish as much as possible while adapting the difficulty of conversations to their ability. I would also explain grammar and more difficult concepts clearly in English when necessary, ensuring that students understand not only what is correct, but why.
I would aim to make lessons interactive rather than relying solely on written exercises. For example, sessions could include discussions about Spanish-speaking countries and cultures, role-play situations, translation activities and conversations based on the student’s interests. This would help make learning Spanish more enjoyable while developing practical language skills.
I would also provide constructive feedback throughout each session, highlighting improvements as well as areas that require further practice. Where appropriate, I would suggest short activities or revision tasks between lessons to reinforce what has been covered.
Ultimately, my goal would be to help each student make consistent progress while developing greater confidence and enthusiasm for Spanish. As a current Spanish university student, I can offer a relatable perspective and understand the challenges that come with learning a foreign language.
