About me

My name is Lawrence Jenner. I'm currently offering limited teaching slots to new online and face-to-face students from my studio in Hackney Wick and my home studio in Leyton.

As a tutor, I aim to build a solid technique and theoretical understanding relevant to students’ interests. This allows the student a foundation of tools to further their creative and technical studies and harness their own sound and voice through music. I teach electric bass and music theory from beginner to advanced students within soul, pop, funk, hip-hop, jazz fusion, metal prog, and more.

I have over 8 years of private and institutional teaching experience. I have taught juniors at The British Institute of Modern Music in Brighton and degree-level students at The Waterbrear College of Music in Brighton. I also possess a BA(Hons) in music performance, and I'm certified with an enhanced CRB/DBS, Child Safeguarding & First Aid at Work.

If you’d like to work towards gaining accreditation, I have experience working with both Trinty & MTB Exams curriculum.

To keep my lessons engaging online I use multiple pieces of software to allow for note-taking, sharing notation, recording and sharing videos. These apps will allow you to access your notes to be available from wherever you are in the world!

Lawrence has been a great teacher so far, still enjoying lessons with him! As a complete beginner with no knowledge of other instruments to rely on, Lawrence has helped teach me fundamental theory as well as how to practically apply it, and correct technique to get rid of some bad habits I’ve picked up trying to teach myself. Lawrence always has a well planned lesson that builds on what we have done previously and makes all resources available online, but also can adapt the lesson if I have any requests, bring any material to the lessons etc. 5* teacher!!

I've been playing a while, mostly self-taugh and felt like i've hit a wall with my playing. Honestly, i've progressed more in 2 months than I have in 7 years since working with Lawrence. He knows it all, from Jazz to Metal, the whole spectrum. A genuinely lovely dude and INSANE bass player. You know what to do, book him in.
