Biology is a lively subject and I prefer basic contents with common and interesting examples so students can learn as well as memorise it more easily. I had two years of experience teaching secondary level students where I learned different methodologies for a healthy learning environment. I believe everyone is different on the aspect of how they learn, some people need to know the concept and they can find their own examples while others need examples to clarify their concepts.
I have seen students struggling with biology because they believe it’s tough!You won’t get it without even trying . I would like to share one of my experiences from past, one of my students used to hate biology as a subject because she said it’s tough, there’s were too many terminologies, difficult concepts and not easy to memorise that happens to most of us. She came to me asking how did you manage to learn it seems impossible for me and I replied why don’t you give it a try? She said I’m trying. I replied no it’s not like that, you already believed it’s difficult that not how it works. You have to clear your mind first and start thinking different like you are experiencing something new, you are learning about life, how things works naturally! How you manage to breathe oxygen from air while air is full of different gases. I tried to change her way of thinking and it worked. Common life examples are the key to learn.
