I'm a Biomedical Science graduate from the University of Birmingham, with an A grade at A-Level Biology and strong results across university modules in physiology, immunology, neuroscience and genetics, so I'm comfortable teaching right across the GCSE and A-Level Biology syllabus, not just one topic area.
My lessons are one-to-one and fully tailored: I start by finding out where a student feels confident and where they're struggling, then build sessions around those specific gaps rather than working through a generic script. I explain concepts in plain, simple language first, then layer in the technical detail and exam terminology once the core idea has clicked. I use diagrams, real-world examples and analogies to make abstract processes easier to visualise and remember.
I check understanding constantly through questions rather than waiting until the end of a session, so I can adjust my pace on the spot if something isn't landing. Each lesson typically finishes with a short set of practice questions in exam-style format, so students get used to how marks are actually awarded, not just the content itself.
My teaching style comes from experience leading Peer-Assisted Study Sessions at university, where I regularly explained complex physiological and scientific concepts to mixed-ability groups of students, adapting my explanations in real time based on how the group was following along. I'm patient, encouraging, and genuinely enjoy the moment a concept finally makes sense to someone.
