Initially, in the first meeting, we’d assess the student’s ability to try to see where there are any gaps in knowledge or maybe just a little bit of confusion/difficulty in their understanding. One finding that, each lesson there-on will be structured around one specific aspect that needs improvement.

Before the official next lessons, we would do a quick recap over what was done the week before and then move into the next lesson. At a certain point after some lessons, we would do another assessment based on those areas completed to see the actual level of improvement and move on from there.

After all the lessons have had a positive impact on the students’ learning and understanding of the subject, we’d then progress onto past papers and go through them to decrease stress and to help them get the experience of using the information in a timed manner.

If at any point during any of the lessons, an area of the subject gets too confusing, we can break it down further and split it across to the next lesson to make it easier and to give a more thorough overview and explanation of how to work with it.

I’ve previously worked with younger (predominantly upper year primary school students and lower secondary school) students to help them achieve their goals by the end of the year to get a higher grade in their overall assessments. I try to accommodate to every student’s needs and wants to the best of my ability.
