Hi! my name is Karol. I'm 27, I'm from Spain, and I live in London. I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I teach Spanish online and in person to students of all ages, from complete beginners to people who already speak well and want to sound more natural.
I've taught in a few different settings: English to university students with GoToCo in Thailand, nutrition sessions on NHS placements, and Spanish privately to friends, family and a small number of students. In Thailand I ran structured workshop sessions and planned all my own materials, lesson plans, slide decks, vocabulary handouts and quizzes, teaching solo and co-teaching, with class sizes and resources changing week to week. Teaching a language to learners who weren't yet fluent taught me how to explain things simply, keep everyone talking, and change direction when something isn't landing.
What all of it had in common was people who were nervous about getting things wrong in front of someone. That's the part I care about most. One of my students said she could make mistakes without feeling ashamed, and that's exactly what I'm going for, because nobody learns to speak while they're worried about sounding stupid.
So lessons are relaxed and conversation-led. You'll speak from the first session, I won't stop you mid-sentence to correct a verb ending, and I explain the why behind grammar rather than handing you rules to memorise. I build around what you actually need, whether that's a school exam, a work trip, family in a Spanish-speaking country, or just holding a conversation on holiday.
I teach the Spanish of Spain, the variety used in UK GCSE and A level courses, so if you're working towards an exam you'll be learning exactly the vocabulary and pronunciation you'll be marked on. If you're learning for travel or work in Latin America, I'll point out the differences as we go.
I hold a current enhanced DBS check and have worked with children and young people during my NHS placements, including paediatrics and child and adolescent mental health. I also have a Level 2 certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties, which helps when a student needs a different pace or approach.
Outside teaching I'm [into music and travel, and I've got family in Spain and Romania]. Happy to chat about anything in a lesson, that's usually where the useful vocabulary comes from anyway.
Online £20/hr, in-person in London (price is tailored to travel timing and expenses).
