Piano Lessons | Polish Lessons | 20 Years’ Teaching Experience | ABRSM, GCSE, A1-C2 Exams | All Ages from 5 Years | Online and In-Person Lessons

I believe in a structured approach to both piano and Polish lessons, tailored to your goals, whilst still making the lessons enjoyable and fun.

For piano, my approach depends on the age and level of the student. If you are a complete beginner, I will teach you all the basics, step by step: reading music from scratch, playing, exercises to improve technique, music theory, improvisation and building chords. If you are a more advanced player, I will help you to improve your technique, interpretation and understanding of music, and show you effective practice exercises.

I specialise in preparation for ABRSM examinations, with a consistent 100% pass rate. Most of my students earn Merit and Distinction.

My approach is friendly and encouraging, and it is important to me that you not only make progress but also enjoy playing and practising. I often use relaxation techniques with my students as I believe they have a beneficial effect on performance.

Whatever your reasons are for wanting to take lessons - preparation for exams or pure pleasure - I'm very flexible and can accommodate you. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons.

My Polish lessons incorporate a mixture of grammar, conversation and writing to give a solid foundation to the language and reinforce the material learned by repetition and a range of exercises.

I believe it is very important to practice speaking the language as much as possible. By listening, speaking and repeating as children do, you will learn the structures of Polish naturally.
Learning a language doesn't have to be dry and overly formal - it can be fun! Also, knowing conversational Polish will allow you to communicate in a variety of everyday situations. We can record lessons, enabling you to listen to dialogue and learn new words at home later, and speed up progress.

My teaching methods have proved effective with students over the past 20 years.

I look forward to hearing from you!

My daughters have been having Polish lessons with Julia since March 2020. Julia is a outstanding teacher, very patient, kind and understanding. Both my daughters have made good progress through a combination of structed lessons and homework. I would highly recommend Julia. My eldest daughter says ‘my Polish lessons are very interesting and Julia is a very helpful teacher. I feel confident when speaking, writing and reading Polish in and out of my lessons. As well as learning the language, I have learned a lot about the culture in Poland.’ Her sister says ‘I think that Julia is fantastic and makes learning Polish really fun, interesting and engaging.'

I started learning the piano in 2016 with Julia at a beginner grade during my early 60s and have made excellent progress to about grade 6 and above. She is an excellent teacher: attentive, conscientious, thoughtful, supportive and with a very deep knowledge of the piano. What I very much like about the lessons is that they are structured which facilitates progress and which I find motivating. Julia suggests appropriate pieces for me to extend my level, we practice sight reading, specific techniques ( e.g. drawing on pieces from Czerny), the scales and various areas of theory. I recommend Julia as a brilliant teacher.

Learning piano with Julia is a wonderful experience. She is incredibly attentive and patient, and creates the perfect atmosphere for learning. Lessons are calm and encouraging, but she has the intuition for knowing exactly when to push you to help you improve, and how to work on those areas efficiently. What I appreciate most is that she is a great motivator without ever putting pressure on you. It makes her the ideal teacher if you want to make progress playing piano steadily and enjoy the hobby long-term. Her lessons are very practical, but she has such deep musical knowledge and always takes the time to explain theory clearly whenever needed. I can't recommend her highly enough!
