Hello! I’m Joshua Dickin, a classically trained singer with a BMus (Hons) from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Alongside my professional performing career — which has included solo recitals, choral concerts, opera productions, and private events — I have developed a real passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others through teaching. I firmly believe that singing should be a joyful and empowering experience, whether you are stepping into your first lesson or looking to refine more advanced vocal technique.
My teaching style centres on confidence, technique, and enjoyment. Every voice is unique, so I take time to understand each student’s natural sound, goals, and learning pace. I teach both adults and children, from beginners who want to explore their voices for the first time to experienced singers preparing for performances. My approach is always tailored to the individual, ensuring that lessons are engaging, supportive, and productive.
A typical lesson begins with vocal warm-ups to build healthy habits and flexibility, followed by work on repertoire, technical exercises, and feedback to consolidate progress. I provide practical steps for self-directed practice, helping students to grow independently between sessions. While I don’t focus heavily on ear training or advanced theory, I do introduce basic musicianship and performance skills, since effective communication and confidence on stage are essential aspects of singing.
Students often tell me they leave lessons feeling energised and more self-assured in their abilities. Many find new confidence not only in their singing but also in their overall self-expression. I’m particularly proud of creating an inclusive, open environment where everyone feels comfortable to explore and take creative risks — a space where mistakes are seen as stepping stones rather than setbacks.
Lessons can take place online or in person, and I’m fully mobile, meaning I can travel to students when convenient. Whether you’re preparing for auditions, hoping to sing more confidently in public, or simply seeking a new and rewarding hobby, I’ll guide you with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism. My ultimate aim is to help you unlock your unique voice, build lasting technique, and enjoy every moment of making music.
