I pride myself on my ability to draw out the potential in all of my students, to set them ambitious but realistic goals, and to meet them always with sensitivity, encouragement and no small dose of humour. I tailor all of my lessons to suit the personalities, learning styles and objectives of each individual student.
I teach Writing, English Literature and Language lessons for a variety of purposes, whether for self-expression, exam preparation, improving one's ability in a specific context (business, creative, or academic), or as a necessary supplement to language-learning. I’ve taught a diverse range of learners, including primary and secondary school students, as well as those preparing for university.
I can help with comprehension and critical reading skills, as well as mining a text for an in-depth understanding of its themes, its author’s intentions and the literary devices employed. I also encourage all of my students to think outside of the box and not be afraid of trusting their own interpretations and instincts.
As for writing itself, I can teach you how to best develop, structure, and clarify your ideas in a style that feels true to you. There is no clear-cut path to genuine expression – and while there are plenty of techniques on craft we’ll learn along the way – my ultimate goal is to help you nurture and claim your authentic voice. I believe that all writing is – at its core – creative, and the better we are at writing creatively, the more we’re able to accomplish with our writing.
My approach recognises this and uses it to transform your relationship with words, no matter your objective, whether you’re interested in improving your essay-writing, developing your poetic voice, or exercising your storytelling muscles.
