I have been a language teacher since 2013 (approx. 9 years), teaching in-person and online to both native speakers and non-native speakers of English and German, but I have also taught music for about 2 years. I am familiar with both traditional language learning and language acquisitional methods/methodologies in pedagogy (e.g. rubrics, lesson and/or unit planning, classroom management tools), but since 2018, I have been focusing on the Natural Approach (TPRS) and have taken it steps further. Depending on the needs and/or desires of the client/student, I do my own assessment (i.e. taking notes, what "level" they might be at), and then I proceed with the content - if it is more traditional, I will introduce new vocabulary through examples AND Total Physical Reponse and visual aids, and then pose questions; however, if it is more towards fluency and accuracy (i.g. acquisition), I go straight to conversations whilst using TPR, visual aids, and the like. I will minimise translation and overexplanation/overanalysis, unless the concept is highly technical (i.e. low frequency word). My goal and intention is to WORK WITH the subconscious at all times in order to induce ACQUISITION (as often as possible), and thus, only allow for conscious processing when necessary. Just like nature, things take time, and in order for us to ACQUIRE anything, we need EXPERIENCE/EXPOSURE (learning by doing) through "fun, easy, and compelling" experiences/sources (Stephen Krashen). I just take it many steps further. Care to venture into LIFE with me?
