Jonathan Lane

I am a classically trained musician and have more than 40 years’ experience as a teacher of music, practical, and theory. I teach online in English across the world using Italian/British terminology.

I teach:
• Piano to Grade 8
• Organ to diploma level
• Music theory to Grade 8 and beyond
• History of music
• Composition

I welcome pupils from anywhere who have a good command of English via zoom or other video platforms.

I teach those interested in both taking exams and those who just want to further their experience.

I hold a music degree from the University of London (Goldsmiths’ College) and diplomas from the Royal College of Organists.

My particular interests are in organ and choral music, orchestral and chamber music from Britain and the US, film music, improvisation, composition, and musicology in general. I also cover some areas of popular music.

My teaching style is relaxed and affirming, learned from my teachers as a student and many years’ experience encouraging students to achieve their highest potential. I believe that music must be fun, it must be a pleasure for the performer as well as the audience and therefore I encourage a holistic approach to music education.

My main desire as a teacher is to impart the wonder of music, in whatever genre, to the student and to help the student build a foundation and deeper understanding of music and how it works as well as enabling students to progress in their technical studies.
