Hi, I’m Claire, a qualified Music teacher with over 20 years’ experience teaching Music in secondary schools. I have a degree in Music from the University of Sheffield, QTS, and am currently studying towards ABRSM Grade 8 Music Theory.
I offer friendly, supportive online tuition for GCSE and A Level Music, as well as Music Theory from beginner to advanced level. Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an examination, working on a composition or simply want to improve your understanding of music, I will tailor lessons to your individual needs.
My teaching covers music theory, harmony, listening and aural skills, set works, musical analysis, composition, notation and exam preparation. I have extensive experience helping students with different abilities and learning styles, and I aim to explain complicated musical concepts in a clear and accessible way.
Lessons are relaxed and encouraging but have a clear focus. We can work through specific areas you find difficult, revisit topics from school or college, practise exam-style questions, analyse music together or develop your composition skills. I can also provide targeted support for students who have missed lessons or need help filling gaps in their knowledge.
Alongside teaching, I continue to develop my own musical skills through theory study, arranging and score writing using Sibelius. As a practising musician, I believe music is best understood through a combination of theory and practical musical experience.
Most importantly, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and to leave each lesson feeling more confident about their music.
