[EN] Experienced and passionate English Literature and Language tutor (with a PhD, too!)

Hello, I'm John - originally from England, my love of languages, travel and cultures has led me to teach, work and live not only in the UK but in the USA, Mexico, and most especially, France. I've been living on-and-off in France for most of the last fifteen years, where I have taught in prestigious universities like the New Sorbonne and Dauphine, in Paris, as well as working with private individuals and sixth form (lycée) students. I teach English Literature and Language, as well as writing skills, English conversation, comparative literature and literary theory. I can adapt my teaching to your needs (exams, professional requirements, interests, university curricula...), I am approachable but rigorous, patient and thorough, and I am used to working with a range of media, from newspapers and professional documents to music, video and social media (I even studied new online literature as part of my PhD). I am also a published poet, writer and editor - and I hope to share my love of words, writing and language with you soon!

With over twelve years' teaching experience, I've done everything from one-on-one in-person and online classes to exam prep in sixth forms, conversation classes in businesses, and particularly Literature and writing skills at universities. I've got a broad range of experience and specialisations, from general courses on the history of English and Anglophone fiction, poetry and theatre, to contemporary writing by minorities, gender theory, postcolonial criticism, poetry, Modernism, the Romantics, and more. I enjoy making criticism and theory come alive and showing how Literature interacts and intersects with all aspects of life, culture and society. I love making language come alive (I am CELTA-certified in teaching English as a second language, too) and try to make classes as interactive as possible, whether it's going over grammar rules or looking at an inventive piece of poetry or theatre.

My depth of experience and flexible approach makes me ideally suited to helping you the way you want and need. [FR] Professeur d’anglais et de littérature riche de treize ans d’expérience, je propose mes services en tant que professeur particulier.

Anglais natif et docteur de Littérature comparée, je vous propose des cours sur mesure pour répondre à vos besoins : je suis formé sur des méthodes de communication orale et j’ai travaillé plus de six ans les universités Sorbonne Nouvelle et Paris Dauphine. Je suis davantage spécialisé dans la littérature, la rédaction en anglais, différents éléments de l’anglais avancé, l’anglais universitaire, et la communication orale, l’aisance en conversation.
Je peux ainsi également vous accompagner dans les études littéraires, de civilisation anglophone, et notamment la littérature anglophone.
J’offre également un accompagnement aux épreuves de l’agrégation en anglais (accompagnement que j’ai déjà fait à la Sorbonne Nouvelle et en tant que particulier).

Anglais natif, j’ai également vécu un an aux États-Unis et j’ai une bonne connaissance de l’anglais américain, ainsi que de leur système d’éducation.

Nous pouvons nous rencontrer chez vous, dans un café ou dans un autre lieu propice à la communication ! Je peux être assez flexible pour les cours, toutefois je donne principalement des cours en semaine et pas trop tard le soir (d’après mon expérience, les cours tard le soir ne permettent pas un apprentissage optimal).
Cours à Paris, dans le pays de Fontainebleau, ou dans d’autres lieux faciles d’accès.

Je propose des cours à 40€ l’heure (des cours à partir de 30€/h sur Skype/Zoom/Teams/etc. seraient également possibles). Prix dégressifs (par personne) pour des cours groupés.
