Having previously done tutoring online and face to face, I have learnt how children learn. Truth is every child is different. Presenting to one child is very different to another. Gaining understanding for the child is important and seeing which areas they will want to work on, focusing on them. The basics of my tutoring would be presenting the topic through powerpoints and talking it through with them, then comes questions we work on together, finally questions for them to answer independently, help will be there if needed. If having an older child for instance GCSE level, exam questions may be set for homework and demonstrated within my powerpoint. As a maths lover I have learnt that the best way to achieve if practise and gaining experience on exam questions - this was key for me. If a child was not to get the topic we could go over things in a different light which may make them see the topic clearly. After the end of each session I may set questions for them to answer for me for the next week as going over something once will not always go in. Before the following week and moving onto next topic I may have a couple of questions for the child to answer to see how much of the topic went in and when I should revisit this. This is how I intend to tutor the children which chose me, however I do understand that each child is different and am more than willing to change my style if it doesn’t suit the child!
