Hi hi! My name is Jennie, and I am a third-year Philosophy student at the University of Glasgow with a passion for supporting struggling and neurodivergent students.
As someone with dyslexia and ADHD myself, I understand first-hand that many students are highly capable but may struggle within traditional learning environments.
Everyone learns differently, and so I tailor my sessions to the individual needs of each student. In our lessons, I aim to break down course content into manageable steps and create supportive ‘scaffolding’ that encourages confidence and independent study.
Types of support I offer:
- Executive function support (planning, organisation, memory, prioritisation, and time management)
- Pre-exam review and revision sessions
- Creation of personalised study plans using course content
- Essay planning and structuring exam answers (English, History, Modern Studies, Geography, Business, etc.)
- Working through and marking past-paper questions together
- Development of productive and sustainable study habits (with a focus on ‘deep work’)
- Visual, creative, and discussion-based learning techniques (mind maps, cue cards, colour coding, visual storytelling, etc.)
- Introduction to mindfulness meditation techniques to help manage exam anxiety
- 'Body doubling' study sessions, where we work alongside one another to improve focus and task completion
I understand that tutoring can sometimes feel intimidating or uncomfortable, particularly for students who may already lack confidence in academic settings. Because of this, I aim to cultivate a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and sharing their struggles openly.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or queries - I am always happy to help :)
