I believe that the best approach for understanding biology is understanding the basics first. Developing a solid foundation will mean that you can always apply whatever knowledge you have to unknown questions or situations. Unfortunately, a lot of taught biology is memory based, and while I can't help you memorise the information, I can suggest the methods that were useful to me to help me get through all the memorising I had to deal with throughout my undergrad. I always found that having a person to question you and to check whether you're doing things correctly or not is very useful, so I will try and check through whatever you do and try and understand why your answers are correct or incorrect. Most of all, I believe the best approach is to try and enjoy whatever you have to learn as it makes it more palatable and I will do my best to help with this.
