I haven't taught Spanish in over 20 years but I have been using it regularly on professional and personal level. I have also done various translations and some simultaneous and consecutive interpretation over the years. I have been managing corporate events in the past 23 years and this also allowed me to use my Spanish on regular basis, during business meetings with various Spanish speaking suppliers across Spain and Latin America, supporting Spanish speaking attendees and by communicating with Spanish speaking colleagues.
I have a BA degree in Spanish language and literature from Zagreb University, Croatia, as well as a certificate of a Spanish speaking tour guide in Croatia where I am originally from.
The way I learnt Spanish was through conversation with Spanish native speakers both from Spain and Latin America, as well as reading Spanish literature and press, listening to Spanish music and watching Spanish films and programmes. This is why I am a strong believer in the importance of using the language and not just memorising grammar rules. Grammar is the basis of correct language usage but practice is what makes language learning essential. I believe languages are live organisms and as such need to be learnt in a relaxed way, with mistakes being there to help us improve.
The ideal duration of a class is maximum an hour and frequency ideally twice a week. I teach online and am flexible in arranging the schedule around the students. Spanish is a beautiful melodic language and very useful.
