I have done tutoring for schools and privately whilst doing my undergraduate degree in Materials Science. I like to focus on intuitive understanding rather than memory based learning as I feel this prepared most students best. In lessons we also typically spend a lot of time working through problems, with the student leading the discussion and me there a guide to help develop techniques and methods for problem solving. I am very happy to listen to how you as the student prefers to learn, and adapt what we do in lessons to suit as I find that gives the best results. The main thing I ask from students is that they always talk through what they are thinking as then we can address which areas any misconceptions arise from.
