Fresh out of my A levels and off to university, I have a current knowledge of the national curriculum, as well as up to date revision techniques.

I understand the importance of recognising the needs of individuals due to the diversity of learning requirements. Lessons will be built around the young person's individual needs and learning style.

I have an excellent grasp of content, study skills and exam technique. During my previous mentoring experience I have encouraged my students to not only focus on building and maintaining their course knowledge but also how to successfully apply it to the questions in their exams. I particularly excel at exam technique for OCR(A) A-Level Biology, but the skills I have learnt can be applied to many key stages and subjects.

My preferred format for teaching is online, however if the student is within a reasonable distance I would be happy to commute to an appropriate location.

The format of each lesson would be entirely adapted to suit the student, while retaining a familiar and consistent structure. Lessons would begin with a friendly check-in to ensure the student is comfortable and ready to learn: building a trusting relationship and creating a space where a student feels safe and ready to learn is vital. Lessons would then consist of: recall of previous learning; agreement, with student input, of aims and objectives of the lesson; assessment of current understanding of the topic / subject. Teaching would have an interactive, dialogic approach, including carefully crafted questions which encourage students to articulate their thinking and thus deepen their understanding, with regular opportunities to reflect and assess progress. Building the student's understanding of how they learn and study skills will also be an important part of each session and equip them for future studies.
