I am a student at Durham University, studying English Literature for my degree, and have been passionate about the subject for many years, which I hope to instil within my students too. Over the past few years, I have served as an informal tutor to my younger sister, where I proof-read some of her essays and coursework, and helped her get to grips with the fundamental skills involved in literary analysis, which encouraged her to pursue her English studies for her A-levels.
I am enthusiastic about getting to know my students individually, and communicating effectively according to their biggest concerns and challenges. I will use smaller scale examples of literary analysis, where we will practise close reading a piece of text, before developing these analytical skills to the novel, play, or poem as a whole. As well as this, I encourage students to bring any completed essays that they have done to the lessons, where we can go through the strengths, and areas for improvement together. In addition, throughout our lessons, I will emphasise the importance of understanding the Assessment Objectives of the exam board for each student (predominantly for those studying GCSEs). Furthermore, another challenging aspect of the subject for most students is the limited writing time in exams. Therefore, I will make this a focus for students, by asking them to complete timed paragraph writing, that would reflect the real exam, until they feel completely comfortable with what can be an incredibly challenging exam time-frame!
Thank you for reviewing my profile, and I look forward to potentially hearing from you soon.
