My academic background in History is strong. At Oporto British School, I achieved an A* in IGCSE History and a grade 7 — the highest possible mark — in IB History at Higher Level, finishing as the top History student in my year group. My IB History Internal Assessment explored the extent to which the aims of controlling ethnic minorities were similar in Mao’s China and Hitler’s Germany, a topic that required sustained independent research, critical analysis, and sophisticated comparative argumentation. My History teacher commended the work for its “thought-provoking comparisons” and noted that my essay-writing and source-analysis skills were “genuinely impressive” by IB level. I graduated with an IB score of 39, the third highest in my year, and was awarded the COBIS Student Achievement Award for exceptional academic achievement.
I’m also very patient and focused on creating a positive environment during lessons. We will focus on exam criteria including learning how to analyze sources, compare and evaluate historical views and how to subtly integrate those in long answer questions.
I also offer internal assessment guidance, and how to present your experience as a history student for a personal statement in an area other than history like I did for my UCL Laws application.
