Art history is a broad and complex subject that combines a range of skills, including visual analysis, engaging with critical and theoretical texts, a strong grasp of historical timelines and elegant and persuasive writing. I take a tailored approach to cultivating these skills in students, identifying specific areas for improvement in their work or approach to university preparation. The format of a lesson depends on the students’ individual needs and eventual goal.
My approach is friendly and discursive whilst still making efficient use of students’ time. I provide structure and guidance whilst encouraging students to explore their own interests and form their own opinions. I help A level and IB students to structure judicious art historical arguments whilst cultivating their passion for the subject along the way. If you are a student wondering if art history is right for you, I look forward to meeting you and hopefully convincing you to take up this fascinating subject!
