My lessons are calm, structured, and tailored to the individual learner. I begin by understanding the student’s current level, confidence, and learning style, and then build a personalised plan that supports steady and meaningful progress.
For students who are significantly behind academically, I break learning down into small, manageable steps so they can experience success and gradually rebuild confidence. Many of the pupils I work with have gaps in foundational skills, so lessons focus on strengthening those foundations before moving forward.
For pupils who feel anxious about learning or who have become disengaged from school, my priority is creating a supportive environment where they feel safe to participate. Once students feel comfortable, they are far more open to trying, asking questions, and developing new skills.
Lessons typically include a combination of explanation, guided practice, and short activities that reinforce understanding. I regularly check for understanding and adjust the pace depending on how the student is responding. Where helpful, I use visual supports, structured routines, and practical examples to make concepts easier to grasp.
I have extensive experience supporting pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs, autism, ADHD, and school avoidance (EBSA). My approach is patient, flexible, and centred around meeting learners where they are academically and emotionally.
I also communicate regularly with parents to share updates on progress and highlight the areas we are focusing on. My goal is not only to improve academic skills, but also to help students build confidence, resilience, and a more positive relationship with learning.
