I have trained to become a teacher of English as a foreign language, have taught English for 5 years in schools, and have been a private tutor for over 10 years. Over the years, I developed a good understanding of child development, learning theory and inclusive educational practice. In particular, I explored how children’s cognitive, emotional, and social development influences learning, and how teaching strategies can be adapted to support students with diverse needs and abilities. This can easily be applied to adults, shifting the perspective on their motivation and drive to undertake the language-learning journey.
As a teacher, I endeavour to build my students' knowledge over time through carefully sequenced lessons and formative assessment. This reinforces the importance of adapting teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students. Approaches such as breaking complex tasks into smaller steps, scaffolding learning, and using visual aids can help pupils access challenging material and build confidence in their learning. Working closely with students with different communication styles and learning profiles has helped me develop the ability to explain concepts clearly, structure learning carefully, and respond flexibly to pupils’ needs.
Through my work in various educational settings, I have seen how thoughtful teaching strategies and supportive classroom environments enable pupils with different learning styles to engage successfully. Creating a safe environment for my students to express themselves while exploring various activities is an essential part of my teaching strategy. Relaxed and calm students are confident enough to tackle challenging exercises head-on and are not afraid to make mistakes, which creates more learning opportunities.
My academic background, classroom experience and commitment to inclusive education have prepared me well for the tutor role. I am eager to collaborate with students on their learning journey. I am a teacher who sets high expectations while ensuring every student is supported to access learning and develop confidence as a learner. Ultimately, I hope to contribute positively to each student's skill set, curiosity and resilience needed for future learning.
