Our starting point for all lessons will be your interest or the topic that you are currently working on. Through discussions and debate I will guide you to understand and analyse texts, put them into perspective and include your own original ideas.
History is about understanding past people: their ideas and ideologies, the way they saw the world, what they invented, experienced, decided... But it is also about understanding the present: present people and how they are telling the stories of what once happened. What we will try to untangle is the various ways history has been told and why. We will dive into an underworld of hidden agendas, knowledge and ignorance, perspectives, feelings, and much more.
History attempts to make sure we don't repeat past mistakes. History reminds us what we come from, and where we come from. History tell us why we live, think, and act the way we do. Therefore, it is the very foundation of human culture and identity across the world. To understand someone, you need to understand their history.
To learn about the past can be facinating in so many ways. There is a reason why so many dramas take place in various historical periods. Thoughout our lessons, you will learn about what happened, why it happened, question if it happened, and debate the impact. We will do interesting activities with different historical sources: photos, artefacts, and various written documents like letters and diaries, reports, speaches and much more. We will compare the ways history has been told and discuss why.
