Biology can be a messy subject, some of that mess can be cleared up by learning more, but some of it requires us to change how we fundamentally think about science.

I primarily plan lessons around Learning Objectives from a learners' curriculum. However, I have a lot of experience in assessment for learning and I will adjust or plan new lessons to address gaps in knowledge. If there is a particular area of biology you are struggling with I can plan lessons for that.

I am a firm believer in engaging students with the subjects and extending learning past the level required. I have strong proofreading and writing skills which I promote alongside science. I was trained in an applied science approach and I have many biological case studies to demonstrate concepts often only given a glancing coverage; such as Mendelian inheritance or ecological niches. I have many years in education with a focus on skills based learning. However, I also have a range of memory techniques to help with the elements of memorisation that are necessary to be successful at biology.

I have previously tutored students from 8-22 ranging from Year 6 SATs preparation to students of medicine. I am easily able to adjust my lessons to the target audience. I have experience as a class teacher as well as a 'Microsoft Educator' and I can plan lessons on PowerPoint, as worksheets or integrated into software such as Minecraft Education Edition. I have often supported children who struggle with classroom learning and I am always ready to rise to the challenge.
