I have just finished my gcse. I am hoping to be a history tutor. I got grade 8 in history, exam board edexcel and i was 3 marks off a 9. I noticed that with history learning it as a story works very nicely and thats how i would plan to teach it. My lessons wont be like traditional lessons but ones where ill expect my student to be able to tell me the whole of the timeline for their exam board as a story. After the knowledge is there i will go into exam techniques and cheat codes of how to get more marks than you need to write.
