Heidi Atkinson

I help to develop a student's skillset and confidence working with a variety of mediums, helping them to analyse artworks and artists insightfully and helping to build their coursework into a comprehensive and impressive portfolio.

Lessons will include building on their drawing, painting, printing and sculpting skills to a strong level, working on their technique and confidence when using different mediums such as graphite, charcoal and pastels. Then refining those skills when combining them to make art pieces for their coursework. I will help teach them about using perspective, composition, foreshortening, lighting and colour palettes to the best of their ability when creating or analysing art. I will encourage practical studies of artworks through sketches and small scale studies in the students chosen medium, before building the studies into a portfolio.
Lessons will also include analysing artwork together, learning how to observe art from a technical perspective and confidently write about their observations. We will research artists, how styles have evolved and subject matter has changed and learn how to connect their research into their coursework. I will check written work and help students to elevate their writing, analytical skills and writing artistic statements for their coursework and exam preparations.

Lessons will be conversational and encourage students to explore art and enjoy the process of making as much as the end result. I would like to teach students to be excited about new mediums, to have self-confidence when creating and curiosity for new artists, styles and mediums going forwards. I will help to prepare students for their exams and assessments by developing their skills, so that they are confident in their ability to succeed in every aspect of their art course.
