I always aim to tailor any lessons to the students needs. I think that when a student is passionate about learning something they get better results.
Obviously some areas have to be learnt for exams and qualifications, but even explaining it in a way that involves something they like can be very beneficial.
I’m very knowledgable in exam prep for 11+ and GCSE’s and great experience with A levels too although the new courses may be different to what I studied.
I always try to keep lessons as engaging as possible by using resources that are not only informative but fun as well. Using multimedia is a great way to find multiple explanations of things and find the one that makes the most sense for you.
Specifically for exams, working through sets of past paper questions is a great tool to get used to specific language and question wording which is often the most difficult part of finding answers. We can work through papers in their entirety and then focus on problem areas where you might not understand how they’ve worded things.
My favourite part of studying for my GCSEs and a levels was differentiation and integration. I love problem solving and using skills I’ve learnt through school and applying to real life. As I said earlier I love problems and puzzles so you can always find me doing sudoku and sometimes past papers for fun to see how much I can remember off the top of my head!
