Hassan Al-Qawadri
Born in Damascus, Syria, 1952

Graduate of the University of Damascus – Arabic Literature. I also completed a teaching qualification that prepares students to become Arabic language teachers using the most effective methods, enabling teachers to make Arabic easy, simplified, and enjoyable for students.

My journey was greatly influenced by my father, who was also a teacher and the principal of my primary school. He inherited the profession from my grandparents, who were both involved in teaching and memorisation of the Qur’an.

I began teaching Arabic at the same primary school I attended as a child, where my father was the principal. I later taught at both preparatory and secondary levels.

In 1977, I moved to London to continue working in the same field. I taught Arabic language and Islamic Studies to the children of diplomats from the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. Among my students were the children of the Visa Consul and the Saudi Chargé d’Affaires. Due to my success, diplomats frequently recommended me to their successors at the end of their assignments, allowing me to continue teaching successive families.

I received many offers as a result of my achievements, particularly due to the outstanding results my students consistently attained in their Arabic schools, including King Fahad Academy.

King Fahad Academy later invited me to join their faculty as a morning Arabic language teacher. I accepted the offer, as most of my private lessons for Saudi diplomatic families took place in the afternoons. I taught Arabic at King Fahad Academy for many years until the school closed several years ago.

Teaching is both my profession and my passion. Lessons typically become a shared experience of enjoyment between myself and my students. Each session consists of 45 minutes of instruction followed by 15 minutes of review and reinforcement, making a full 60-minute lesson.

In the past, many students would ask at the end of the lesson:
“Has the lesson already ended, teacher?”
Yes — an entire hour would pass without the student noticing, due to the engaging and stimulating teaching style used during the lesson.

I prepare lesson materials at home — an essential part of my teaching approach. When I teach for one hour, parents can be assured that I have invested another hour in preparation. This includes structured lesson planning, exercises, and supplementary activities beyond the curriculum to confirm full comprehension. If the student successfully completes these activities, it indicates 100% understanding of the lesson.

In my teaching, I follow the Saudi curriculum, which I consider one of the strongest and most effective educational programmes in the Arab world. Its strengths include a high academic standard and the integration of language with religious studies, which significantly enhances student understanding.

For this reason, I respectfully decline requests to teach other curricula.

Some parents may worry that the age difference between myself and their children could present a barrier. I can confidently say this has no negative impact. Even the youngest students quickly connect with the teaching style and benefit greatly from the lessons.

I offer the first lesson free of charge. This allows me to assess the student’s abilities, comprehension level, and responsiveness to instruction.

Finally, I would like parents to know that I commit to advancing their children linguistically to a level where they can speak, read, and write Arabic fluently. They will be able to read books and the Qur’an with confidence, while also developing a strong foundation in Arabic grammar.

Lessons are available via FaceTime or in your home. I strongly prefer in-person teaching, as face-to-face instruction has a significantly greater impact than online lessons. It promotes seriousness, engagement, and more effective learning outcomes. Based on my extensive experience, the benefits of home lessons are far superior.

However, I leave the choice to you. The cost remains the same.

Our Arabic language is beautiful and one of the richest languages in the world. Let us do everything we can to keep it alive and thriving through our children and future generations — especially while living in a country where Arabic is not spoken.
