Hello! My name is Hannah and I am a graduate in French and Chinese (MA Hons) from the University of Edinburgh.
I am passionate about languages, history, culture and literature. I chose my degree as I love learning languages but also learning the history and culture of the respective countries. In school, I studied French, German and Chinese up to GCSE level and continued with French at IB higher and Chinese at IB standard. I aim to help students with grammar and skills on how to learn vocabulary with techniques I have used to learn these languages. Furthermore, I am also fluent in Croatian; having learnt it from a young age I have always been exposed to languages and culture.
Having studied both English literature and History at IB higher, I can provide students help with writing essays in exam conditions and how to structure an effective essay. Having completed the IB diploma programme I have gained various learning, revision and organisation techniques which I can use in our sessions to help you get the most of the time and gain the most information. Although I did not sit my final IB exams due to COVID-19, I remember how daunting GCSE’s were and I aim to provide students with manageable revision techniques and also how to structure essays etc.
always aim to have a well-structured lesson planned out, as I always did when I was revising for my GCSEs and IB exams. I think the best way to start a session is with a short question to get the student in the mindset of the subject, I also think it is important to go through this question immediately to point out weaknesses. Often this question will be a weakness from the previous session or something that the student (or parent) flagged up as an area of weakness. I then move on to the main bulk of the session where we will go through what the student wishes whether that be revision techniques, learning content or improving exam techniques; either way, I always aim to focus on exam-style questions. And finally, at the end of the session, I think it is really important to allow the student to ask any questions they may have so we can cover it in the final few minutes or leave it the starter in the next session.
