Greg Tippett

Hi, I’m Greg, a British and South African tutor based in Cape Town, teaching online. I hold a BSc in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from Stellenbosch University and a BMedSc Honours in Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Cape Town. I spent seven years in clinical research, working on drug safety in clinical trials, before teaching English in South Korea, Hong Kong and online. That mix means I know biology inside out and I know how to explain it clearly.

Biology lessons
I tutor secondary school and university biology, including cells, biochemistry, genetics, human physiology and pharmacology. In our first lesson, I’ll find out what you’re studying, what you find difficult and what you want to achieve, then we’ll agree a simple plan.

A typical lesson starts with a quick recap of last time. We then work through one topic step by step, using diagrams on a shared online whiteboard and real-world examples from medicine and research to make ideas stick. We finish with practice questions so you can apply what you’ve learned, and I’ll give you clear feedback and a short task for next time. I’m happy to help with homework, assignments or exam revision.

Guitar lessons
I’ve played guitar for 20 years and teach beginner to intermediate players. We cover chords, strumming and rhythm, reading tabs, time signatures and basic music theory, all built around songs you enjoy, so you make real progress and have fun doing it.

My approach
I’m patient, encouraging and organised. There’s no such thing as a silly question, and I’ll always go over something again until it makes sense. Lessons run on Zoom or Google Meet, and UK after-school and evening times suit me well. Get in touch and let’s get started!
