I completed my A levels and GCSEs recently, so I am very familiar with the current specifications. Lessons can take a variety of formats depending on the areas students most want to focus on. We can cover content and go through new topics, this might be especially useful if there are specific areas that students are struggling with. Or, we can go through past paper questions and mark schemes; this might be more useful to students closer to exams.
A typical lesson would involve going through a chosen topic with the student and ensuring that we have covered all parts of the exam specification. I encourage student to come to lessons with questions or specific topics that they are finding challenging, so that we can focus on those. In the latter part of the lesson, we will attempt to tackle a few past paper questions together, this gives student to opportunity to put the skills they've learnt into practice and is the best way to effectively prepare for an exam setting. I am also happy for students to bring me any exam questions that they have found or have been assigned that they would like some advice about.
The lead up to exams can be incredibly stressful, so I am here to help and provide any general exam season advice to students. Whether that be general revision tips, how to best manage difficult questions and timing in an exam environment, or university applications. I have been through it all recently, so know how to cope.
